Tate sat down with EM applicant Forrest Wells at the end of last year’s interview season to talk about lessons learned on “the trail”. The episode was recorded in that sweet spot after Forrest had completed his interviews but before he knew the results of the Match. He drops fresh knowledge bombs and shares great insight into what it is really like to interview at EM residency programs and why EM is awesome.

Spoiler alert…Forrest successfully matched into EM at the University of Utah!

Forrest Wells is an emergency medicine resident at the University of Utah. While completing his medical education at Oregon Health & Science University he served as President of the OHSU Wilderness Medicine Interest Group, conducted research in outdoor education expedition epidemiology, and co-founded the Northwest Wilderness Medicine Conference and nonprofit Pacific Northwest Wilderness Medicine. Aside from his passion for medicine, he is an avid skier, climber, mountaineer, and runner.

Tate Higgins is a medical student at OHSU about to embark on the EM residency interview trail himself. He has worked as an EMT / firefighter, professional river guide, international expedition leader, and wilderness medicine instructor for NOLS. His recent research explores the utility of wearable technology to monitor health of high altitude travelers in the Everest region of Nepal.
